An interview with Antonia Langdorf
By Maureen Ambrose (ISAR board member)
published in the "International Astrologer" 2003
Maureen:
"You certainly had a childhood many people would envy, Antonia. Travel is an education itself,
and your lessons began early. Where did you receive your formal education?"
Antonia:
"I received my high school diploma in Kassel, Germany. What to do after that point wasn't clear
to me. I almost chose a scientific career because my interest in biology and behaviorism was so
strong. But thanks to my North Node in Leo, I decided to do something more creative and not as
structured as hardcore science would require. At an art school in Cologne, I studied fine arts
for three years and took the first examination."
"However, in March of 1984, something happened that changed my life forever. It was actually the
beginning of my career in the media business. The key event was a rock concert. After the concert,
I interviewed the musicians for my own interest. A man from the record company found that so
impressive that he offered me a job as a writer for a music magazine. I started reviewing records
and later doing interviews with musicians and pop stars. I did that parallel to my studies for a
while. My final decision to quit fine arts school came around 1986 or '87. There was no really
abrupt ending to my connection with the school. It felt more like a slow sneaking out rather than
a final leaving."
Maureen:
Well, armed with all this information, the astrologer in me had to check it out. I noticed that
Antonia had a progressed Mercury retrograde in Aquarius since she was 12 or 13 years old and it
wouldn't be direct until approximately age 34. During the progressed retrograde, she was in one
of those life periods of taking it all in and doing an inner review. Learning personified. This
was a most sensitive Mercury that could investigate, search and experiment in Aquarius, a sign
adaptable to media work. To have both natal Jupiter and natal Mercury conjunct in the 9th house
was also telling me that Antonia had found her niche. Getting back to that fateful month of
March 1984, what was happening in her chart with progressions and transits, I wondered? What
really caught my eye was the transit Uranus station in an opportunity aspect to that 9th house
Jupiter-Mercury conjunction. The station was also shining that opportunity to her progressed Sun,
Mercury, Venus and Jupiter-all in Aquarius, all in her 9th house. Her progressed Moon was at
the end of Aquarius conjunct her Mid-heaven.
We need squares to move things along, and they were there. Transit Pluto from the 5th house was
challenging her natal Saturn to the exact degree. Transit Saturn, sharing that 5th house with
transit Pluto, was conjunct her natal Neptune and in a tight square with the progressed Mercury,
Sun Venus and Jupiter. Talk about an action configuration! Three more transits were working
their magic. Transit Jupiter was in her 7th house of relationships, forming a grand trine with
natal Taurus Moon and the Lilith-Pluto conjunction in Virgo. Jupiter was also on its way to
contact her 7th house Mars. Transit Mars in Scorpio was in her 6th house of work routines.
Last and probably least was transit Venus at the top of her chart, first traveling over
everything Aquarius then traveling over her Midheaven by mid-month. I was breathless after
viewing all this activity. As I was ready to turn away from the chart, I noticed the progressed
Ascendant exactly opposed her natal Sun. That's all of it, I thought but then I thought again.
What is this Lilith all about, I wondered? I had heard lectures on Lilith before but I never paid
that much attention to them. I had to know what was in Antonia's lecture. I ordered a copy of her
February lecture tape and as I listened, I was introduced to another entirely new energy that I
have never investigated before: The Black Moon Lilith. Antonia explained in her lecture that Lilith
is the energy vortex of the empty focal point in the Moon's orbit around the Earth. The Moon travels
in an elliptical orbit around the Earth. The ellipse has two focal points. As it turns out, the
Earth is one point of the two points. The other point is what is now referred to as the Black Moon
Lilith. In reality, there is no body in space but it is a moving point, which behaves as an energy source, or place that also defines the Moon's orbit. It may be a little hard to visualize, but that's the way it works.
What turned my head around on Lilith were the scores of examples Antonia provided in her lecture.
Obviously she had done extensive research on the subject. I had to know what part Lilith played
during that most important turning point in her life.
What software would show Lilith? My Janus
program provided Lilith and from then on, I decided it must be included in my chart work. Now with
Lilith on the menu, I recast Antonia's chart for mid- March of 1984. Lilith was clearly, extremely
active in her 10th house. I could hardly believe my eyes. Even with the 3+-degree movement per
month of Lilith, clearly this energy was in orb no matter what. Its mid-month 10 degree Pisces
was actually in tight opposition to her natal 4th house Lilith-Pluto conjunction, and it was
sextile her natal Moon, sextile transit Jupiter, sextile to natal Mars, trine natal/progressed
Neptune, trine transit Saturn, square transit Uranus, and square transiting nodes. Some contacts.
I was hooked! Could there be any doubt that Lilith was alive and well? I put my startling,
new found astrological tool aside and with even greater curiosity I resumed the interview.
I sent another email to Antonia, asking her when she first became interested in astrology.
