An interview with Antonia Langdorf
By Maureen Ambrose (ISAR board member)
published in the "International Astrologer" 2003
Maureen:
In most cases, I try to attend locally scheduled astrology lectures especially if there is a
presentation by an astrologer I've never heard. However now and then Thursday night rush hour
traffic seems too daunting. From the feedback about Antonia Langsdorf and her lecture on "Lilith"
last February in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I knew I missed a topic and speaker that could
only be described as exceptional. Ray Merriman happened to be holding a financial workshop
in the area that weekend so he did attend, reporting back that the topic and speaker were
"first rate." Obviously, Ray continued to be in touch with Antonia Langsdorf because some time
later, he submitted her name to our Board of Directors as the new ISAR International Vice
President from Germany. Our former VP for Germany, Hans Taeger, with his consent, was reassigned
to Ireland since he has been living there for at least the past ten years.
With a new colleague in our "family," an interview was shouting at me somewhere in the recesses
of my brain. I knew she was presently a well-known celebrity-astrologer with her own television
show in Germany. My email was answered enthusiastically. The interview had started.
Birth data is always a good way to get acquainted and Antonia provided me with hers: January 14,
1962, 3:00 P.M. (15:00), Hanover, Germany. While she has a Capricorn Sun, the fixed-earth emphasis
of her chart gives her a Taurian signature. There is a high Venus quality to the photos I've seen
of her and she is indeed a very beautiful woman. Venus rises three degrees ahead of her Sun and
she has a Taurus Moon with 6 degrees of Cancer as her Ascendant.
Viewing a chart for the first time is like opening up a new book, each planet like a chapter that tells
part of the total "story." Like novels and biographies, charts are likely to have drama, action and
hopefully a measure of enjoyment. Antonia's chart contains the energy and the challenges required
to make her mark in this world of ours. Any planet conjunct an angle will be very significant and
Uranus, widely accepted as the planet of astrology, is conjunct her 4th house cusp. A grand earth
trine involving Moon, Mars and Pluto puts those planets to skillful use; and a tight conjunction
with Pluto. Antonia was to later point out to me that she has Lilith, the Black Moon also connected
to that grand trine since it is tightly conjunct natal Pluto. However, for now I observed that her
Taurus Moon could not sit back and play a contented, comfortable and static role because of the
T-square with a Jupiter-Mercury conjunction and an opposition with Neptune, which just added to
the numinous quality her Pisces Midheaven was suggesting. The open end of the T-square pours into
her 3rd house of communication. Armed with this information, I felt it was time to talk.
"Antonia," I began, "congratulations on your new post with ISAR. After setting up your chart, I'm anxious
to start our interview dialogue. If it's all right with you, I'll begin. For starters I noticed
your natal chart shows Uranus conjunct your 4th house cusp. My first impression was that you probably
had an interesting family. Would you tell me something about your early years?" I was surprised and
appreciative how promptly Antonia replied, but then you know how quick those Cardinal signs can be.
Antonia:
My family was quite unique and my childhood was most enjoyable. My parents were both teachers of fine
arts and religion. As a result, I had a lot of early exposure to museums and art exhibitions.
From my third to sixth year, a lot of time was spent in Cairo, where my father was teaching at the
Goethe Institute. In Egypt, the desert and the ancient temples were my playground and the source for
my childhood dreams. Our family grew during those years in Cairo when my sister was born. There was
a richness of life in those days, not so much of things but of sharing and learning. I always enjoyed
the many evenings of lively family discussions, where we would examine philosophical questions.
Travel was the norm during my childhood. The whole family would holiday at different places in the
Mediterranean. Greece and Italy were particular favorites of mine. I enjoyed the sea and the seeing
the ancient temples. Instead of cartoons and children's books, I read about the Greek myths.
Those books were rich and exciting, packed full of action, emotion and drama. I do believe
that this gave me a foundation for later astrological studies. Yes, nature and nature's mythology
plus a love of animals and their secrets were my main childhood interests."
